How do I stop the notification sound for everything but calendar and gmail

Hi kar11, We suggest you to try following steps.

Open the Settings app-> Tap Notifications-> Select the app whose notifications you'd like to silence.

You'll now see all the notification channels for that app-> tap on the notification channel you'd like to silence. Now you can select Silent.

It doesn't say silent anywhere, only 'turn off notifications'. I still want to be notified if an update is available

Hi, I'm sorry, you can either turn OFF or ON the notifications for the apps. If you turn OFF the notification for any app then you won't receive any alert.
