Google keyboard swipe to home issue

I have a problem when using Gboard, when swiping up to go home from a screen where keyboard is active, it first types that one letter where finger lifts up from the swipe up, and then goes home.

That creates draft messages, unfinished messages where that was not the intention.

Any fix?

I only find this to happen when I did not start at the very bottom of the device. Now swiping to go back a page, it does what you said. You have to hit the arrow down to lower your keyboard before swiping back....

I tried swiping from literally bottom end of the phone up, same thing, keyboard types space or v before going home. The only way to avoid this is by swiping from right/left to go back, that removes the keyboard and then swipe home but that's annoying to do.
