No notification sound for sms texts

Since the last update my galaxy A8 not longer plays sound when I receive a text. In the messages app settings I can no longer chose a sound for all incoming texts. I have to go in to each contact to select a sound and it still doesn't work. In the messages app settings for notifications it says "6 categories deleted" at the bottom. Very frustrated!

Have you checked that you have the latest version of messages installed or an update available??

An old version likely won't play nice with updated system

I strongly suggest a factory reset after every major update to prevent bugs due to settings which may not exist in the latest release. this is common in the device flashing community to recommend a total wipe and re-import of data. use smart switch to back up your device, and then factory reset

no you can't erase an update, that's not how they work.

I would. ensure you back everything up first, but yes
