Does the preinstalled QR app store the read QR values somewhere for editing or transferring?

It currently reads and displays the info then tries to send or open an app.

The preinstalled QR code scanner MAY temporarily store scanned. IF you want to be sure that they are stored, look at the available in the Play Store through Google/Samsung Galaxy as some do have such a feature while being free

My concern is only with the preinstalled Qr reader. it reads a QR and assumes a pointer to a app or web site. I have an app in which the aquired data has to be modified before it works.

Preinstalled app's can be adjusted in Settings to the point of being denied access

In Settings go into App's. Tap on the Options to display ALL (Show System) then try to locate the QR scanner app itself to disable it to match your requirements.
Another place to look at Settings would be Samsung Browser itself to adjust your personal desire

The preinstalled QR reader is incorporated into the camera and doesn't show as a separate app. It also is not described in the user manual.
