This is the all-new Samuel-de-Champlain bridge, finally open after 4 years of construction and 6 months of delays. A huge engineering acheivement. This bridge is curved too. It is the single busiest bridge of Canada. It was built while having the old bridge still open (you can see it on the background), which is quite an acheivement by itself when you know the full scope of the project.

Work isn't done yet however. You see the middle part where there is a hole at road level, and the glass separation between the road and the center? There's going to be an automated metro system there, going straight to downtown from the south shore, replacing the ultra high frequency bus system that goes from downtown to the Panama bus station during rush hours. It goes beyond downtown though. The REM will reach West Island, the TechnoParc, the Airport (yes there's no heavy public transportation system that reaches directly the airport) and will replace the Deux-Montages train line. There are plans to expand the REM beyond this, to the east of Montreal, to Laval's Carrefour Laval (one of the busiest malls in Canada) and towards Chambly.

There's also the pedestrian way that isn't ready yet. It will be finished before Autumn and promises unique, stunning views on Montreal and the St-Lawrence.

This is a 6-lane bridge with 3 on each side. There's a temporary bus lane on the side until the automated metro, called REM, gets build. We expect it to get in service by 2021.
