Get an app from the Play Store for Device Info - If your device has a Qualcomm Chip it's almost certainly Locked - If it's Exynos then you can probably Root it - The correct procedure would be to see if there's a TWRP Custom Recovery available for your EXACT device & Flash the TWRP img.tar with Odin & Flash SuperSU SR5 v2.82 or Magisk v18 - There's obviously more that you need to know - Search for it on xda & really understand what & why you are doing this! 🕊️

Yeah I think that you're out of luck with this device - If want to get a recent Samsung device that you can Root - Pick up a S7 SM-G930W It's easy to Root & there's a fair amount of Development for it - The Custom Roms for the S7 have been running Pie for a while now.
Your device appears to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip - Which is invariably with a Locked Bootloader (some exceptions were the older Note3 & Note4) The Canadian S7 series was the last North American Samsung device that didn't have a Locked Bootloader.
