Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ owners are beginning to receive what is set to be the last major update for their phones. Samsung has rolled out the One UI 2.5 update to the S9 and S9+ today, just a few short days after the latest stable version of One UI was released for the Galaxy Note 9. Firmware version G96xFXXUCFTJ2 accompanies the update, which is currently available in Germany but should be going live in other markets soon.

If you own a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+, you should be able to download the One UI 2.5 update over the air by tapping the Download and install option inside the phone’s Settings » Software update menu. You also have the option of downloading the latest firmware from our archive and flashing it on your phone using a Windows PC.

One UI 2.5 features include wireless DeX

The biggest feature addition to the Galaxy S9 and S9+ with One UI 2.5 is support for wireless DeX. Once you’ve updated your phone, you will be able to run DeX wirelessly on any TV that supports screen mirroring and use the phone’s display as a touchpad. Wireless DeX isn’t as capable as wired DeX, but it works great for things like running presentations and using your TV as a second screen.

One UI 2.5 also brings you a smarter Samsung Keyboard with a YouTube search function and the ability to split it up for easier typing in landscape mode, along with enhanced camera functionality that includes the option to adjust recording duration in Single Take mode and select the resolution of videos captured in Pro video mode. In the Messages app, SOS messages can now be sent to a chosen contact every 30 minutes for 24 hours.

This is it for major Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ updates

As mentioned above, One UI 2.5 is the final big feature update for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Both handsets will continue receiving regular security updates in the future but will not be making the jump to Android 11 or One UI 3.0. It’s disappointing, yes, but that’s just how it is for any Galaxy device launched before the Galaxy S10.
