Galaxy S^ They're greyed out on my phone... is there any way around this? I don't mind rooting my phone

Galaxy SYou could just uninstall the app...
I know that Tasker's AutoNotification would work to remove it - But it might not be necessary to do that...

Galaxy SFor Notifications on the Status Bar - You'll also see the Notification in the Notification Pull Down - Slide the Notification to the RIGHT (SLOWLY) & you'll see Two items as in the screen shot below - Click on the "Gear" to see the Options - You could also Use Tasker's AutoNotification to control all Notifications btw 🐧
