I'm having a terrible time with a samsung galaxy s10 I bought in mid december.

The phone is claiming I'm using a tremendous amount of data, but when I go to the usage tracking, it's not showing where it's coming from. On my last billing cycle, it showed 6gigs of data (which is all I have from bell). But if you go to the app tracking and total how much I actually used, it's under 800mb. The annoying part is my carrier is actually reporting the 6gigs as well. I had an s8 before this, and I've never used more than 1gig in my life. If I browse on amazon for 15 minutes, it will use approximately 100mb of data. It's at the point where I cant use the phone outside of my home. I've read on android forums of people with Samsung's having this problem on the newest android update.

I've called samsung twice. They first had me reset my settings, and then my network settings. This did not help.

They then had me put my phone in safe mode for 24 hours (they actually took control of my phone to see the data usage and how it's not being tracked accurately, and they were shocked).

Being in safe mode did not help, meaning it cant be a third party app.

I'm at the point where I wish I didnt even upgrade or buy the phone, since I cant even use it. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Please!

I need to do another post for you. Some small cleaning up to clear confusion. Nothing to worry about. You have a S10 right? Not S10+? Not S10e?

Something interesting... after hearing you suggest its this android 10 update that did it I did some investigating. I got my s10 on december 7th. I downloaded the android 10 update on december 17th.

I tracked my usage for those first 10 days I had the phone, without the update... and it's all correct!  I used 800mb in those 10 days (used the phone a lot too, was excited for my new phone)... and the app tracking where it came from adds up to 800mb as well. It was all correct! Two days after downloading the update, it went up to 2GB... went up 1.2GB in two days, and the app tracking doesn't remotely add up.

It's definitely this update that did this too me. I'm very grateful you friendly, helpful people on the forum were able to spot out the problem.

Just following the scientific method 😉. Nice investigation work! 👍 So now it's confirmed++ that the new updated caused it.
I'm getting all the files you need. I'll have your link ready by midnight hopefully.

My wife has an s10+ and is having the exact same issue.  Noticed it started happening in the 12/17 update as well.   We switched internet providers and have been without wifi for a few days.  Her data usage has exploded, but not reflected by the apps.  I called samsung tech support who was less than helpful. They blamed att.  Att said not them.  They suggested we take it to one of their stores.  I found the android support thread 1st and was sadly happy to know it was not just her.  Thankfully new internet getting installed on Tuesday.

I noticed a new updat came out 3 days ago.  Her phone does not have it yet since no wifi.  Did that update fix this problem?

No rush, I'll be in bed in about 30 minutes, work at 5am.. wont be able to go through it all till about 4pm tomorrow.

Much appreciated again.

Wonder how long it will take them to fix whatever is doing it within the android 10 update.

@ward, the new update did not help this issue at all. Sorry to hear about your struggles as well. I hope you dont have to pay any overage charges. I hope this post blows up, someone important sees this and it actually gets fixed.

I originally thought my wife's phone wasnt affected.. but its having the same problems too. Going to guess it's happening for a lot of people and they haven't realized it yet.

We get 9gb a month shared plus rollover.  If this persists we will exceed our cap.  I have an s7 and do not have this issue.  She is showing 600 mb used in 2 days

It will take a bit to be fixed. The February patch doesn't appear to bring significant bug fixes for now. (Don't search it, I can see when they're working on new updates through some cool stuff). But thanks for letting me know there's no immediate rush anyway.

Ward, unfortunately the January patch did not change anything except for security.

As always make sure you backup all data first. You can use Smart Switch for that. Rolling back firmware does require a factory reset.
