It's not illegal. What are you talking about? In Canada, one of the callers must know they are being recorded in order for it to be legal. So if you are calling someone, you can legally record your own conversation with that someone and you are not legally forced to disclose that to the other person.

Nope, not illegal. This excerpt, taken from the law C-46, section 184, subsection 2 says in legalese that if the person who makes the call or receives the call records it, it's 100% legal. Or if either of those people authorized someone else to record it, it's legal too.

(Subsection 1 says that call recording is illegal. Subsection 2 explains the allowed exceptions)

It is a criminal offense to intercept phone calls or any private communication for the purpose of recording. There is no consent for recording. Well, that's pretty obvious because the participants are unaware they're being eavesdropped.

However, it is _not_ a criminal offense to record a phone call if there is consent by at least one of the participants, including yourself.

Moreover, it is not illegal to have phone call recording apps installed in your smartphone.
