Samsung probably makes the best designed widgets out of every Android manufacturer. They are all uniform and actually look good, however, they can be better.

It would be nice if the stock widgets had a little more colour, and could be resized to any size we want. For example with the calendar widget, it would be nice if we could have a square that highlights the current date, and depending on its size shows the rest of the week with events underneath. Currently we have a 4×5 large calendar, a small countdown calendar, and a list of upcoming events in a box that can only be resized down to 2×3. More size options would make them fit into our homescreens easier, and more colour would take homescreen customization to a whole new level.

In terms of more colour, you could add dynamic backgrounds to widgets where it makes sense, such as having the weather widget change its background depending on the weather, similar to back in android 5.0. In other apps such as calendar again, you could make the background the same as the app icon colour. This should be an option though, as some people may prefer the current black/white theme.

Finally, more apps should have a widget in general. For example the calculator could have a widget for quick calculations, and the gallery could have a widget highlighting recent photos.

Widgets are overlooked in android, and they have the potential to look good (as we've seen with recent, competing ecosystem software updates). It would be nice if they were given a little love over on android for once.
