No matter how many times I try to place my finger correctly. It used to be pretty good but has gotten very irratic since last upgrade.

Which device? But I'm not seeing any issues with S9+ or S10+ fwiw
Did you Boot into Recovery and Wipe Cache after applying the OTA? - I ALWAYS Boot into Recovery and Wipe Cache after applying the OTA & no issues for me 🐧

Power OFF the phone - Press & Hold Power + Home + Volume UP until you feel the phone vibrate - Release ALL Three buttons - Wait a few seconds until you see the Recovery Menu - Use the Volume button to Scroll down to Wipe Cache - Select with the Power button - Wait a few seconds until you see the Recovery Menu defaults back to Reboot now - Select with the Power button & Wait for the phone to Reboot 🐧
