Samsung continues to deliver on updates.

What you need to know
  • Samsung has delivered Android 10 and One UI.2.0 to its Galaxy Tab A 10.1 and Galaxy Tab A 8.0 tablets.
  • The release also brings the duo up to the July security patch.
  • The update is currently available for LTE variants only, with WiFi only devices getting it later.

While Android 11 may dominate the news, and rightfully so, Android 10 is still yet to reach older, cheaper, third-party Android devices — especially tablets.

Samsung has been doing good work on that front with a steady update cadence. The company released the update to Galaxy Tab S6 and S5e last week. Now it's the turn of the 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 and Galaxy Tab A 8.0 to make the leap.

It's rolling out firmware versions T515XXU4BTFK and P205DXU5BTFB to the 10.1 and 8.0 respectively, bringing both devices up to date with Android 10 as well as adding in the July security patch (via Sammobile.). The folks over at 9to5Google also note that this ships with Samsung's One UI 2.0, rather than the newer One UI 2.1 the firm released to its more expensive tablets.

While Android tablets don't especually have a good reputation compared to the iPad, Samsung has always put its best foot forward while making them. The Galaxy Tab A series are cheap and cheerful, and updates like this will only make them more viable for long-term use.
