I am forced by my fear of them chewing on a wire to have to catch them .. so I have decided on a live trap it's set now ..

Yes, that is a problem. A live trap is a good idea. Sometimes these furry little guys are really smart and they don't fall for it, or just about kill themselves trying to get out of the trap. It would be the first thing I would try too.
Good luck. It's hard to make them understand where they can and cannot live.
