Hi Samsung fans, I'm hoping to hear a solution to this, as support said they were seeking professional info on the camera app minimising itself. I'm reliant on powered wheelchair ambulance and use my A73's selfie camera and native app situated in a phone holder on my left armrest. Their purpose is to act as a digital rear-view mirror, and it's effective. However, on at least one occasion per song, it'll minimise itself unless I tap the screen.

Before you offer any advice, just know it isn't related to power settings, screen timeout, or AOD. And although I've tapped pretty much every clickable app feature, I'm unable to find a solution for keeping the app open, that's a reasonable solution.

By way of giving more than a problem in my contribution, I also want to make a suggestion for a zoom/magnifying technicle spec ability in selfie cams. Along with a suggestion for a tap feature whereby tapping a certain object in the FoV in a particular manner will activate the zoom so something can be better examined. Specifically, it'd help to make apparent any aspect of the image.

I'd use it to better see approaching objects, which will have many and varied application for more than WC occupants. An easy example would be cyclists who might do the same with their phones; as smart rear-view cameras as an added spec separating the photographic qualities and capabilities of Galaxy's from the competition.

Thanks for reading and offering advice to those who do either or both 😊

Hello!

It's interesting to see how technology can help in so many ways.

In this situation, I wonder if the phone is overheating and turning the camera off to protect itself?

In saying the above, is there an actual rear view mirror for a wheelchair? Like a 3rd party one where you can attach it?

Thanks for your comment, I agree wholeheartedly. The sad answer I found not 6mths or so ago is that only mounts for tech were located, not extending past phones, laptops, and tablets. I even looked at simply attaching a mirror in place, such as those installed on bicycles. However, while self-propelled chairs have almost exclusively rounded bars that may or may not match the intended thickness for bike mirrors, powered models rarely have such bars in the correct place for said assistive tech. The only chance for a mirror on my outdoor chair would be via expensive armrest mounts to be mix-and-matched with a tacky mirror it isn't designed to hold.

The point in so detail on a platform like here was and is to highlight a market need for such products; something I'm sure Samsung would have the patented technology to utilise the opportunity in said niche. I unfortunately don't have the fiscal ability to do so myself, or I'd have jumped at such a patent opportunity. I just wouldn't recover if the financial gamble didn't work.

On your second thought I'd considered such before finding that if on video mode, but not recording, it still minimises. Yet once it's actually capturing video it'll run for any timespan I've tested. It would be a simple solution if only video capturing didn't shut down music streaming so the mic captures sound.

I've logged several chat sessions with online support, but the alleged referral to a specialist team or the app proprietor for specialist assistance gets paid verbal and written advice, yet contact always stalls there. After 3 hits and misses on getting this info, I've turned to crowd support.

Thank you for your input!

Ah yeah there are definitely compatibility issues, which I'd imagine is incredible frustrating.

Have you tried using a different camera app? There are many out there in the play store. This might solve the random minimising.

Who knows, maybe one app have the ability to do the zooming with a tap feature!

All the best!

Did you notice how long it takes before it auto minimise? Like after 1 or 2 minutes? Just want to test on my end.

While not 100% certain on the exact time frame for wont of a stopwatch, it appears to be around 2-3mins. I've tested if it lasts a full track of music, and it's never remained open for the length of any songs I listen to while exercising my furkids.

I just tried on my phone (S23+). You're correct, camera is minimising after around 2 minutes if left open. So it's more on OS limitation and not on your phone.

I agree with mbckl, I think it's a protective measure put by samsung to prevent something if the phone's camera if left open. Maybe to protect the battery for overheating? To avoid another Note7 issue?
