Hello there! In order to get real time updates and notification you need to sync your phone to an app. Syncing means active connection between phone and app. Disabling Sync Settings prevents your device from transferring or receiving any settings to OneDrive. That might be all you want to do.
How to disable/enable auto sync?
Choose Settings.
Choose Cloud and accounts.
Choose Accounts.
Tap three dots for "More" options.
Tap "Disable auto sync" to turn off auto sync of all accounts.
