Galaxy AHi reynieeereyn,
To be clear: software updates have not been proven to cause green/white screen lines. The green line issue is an AMOLED screen issue, usually caused by a broken data ribbon (which connects your screen to your phone's motherboard) or a crack in the screen. It's entirely a hardware issue.
It should be safe to update your device software to the latest version. If you want to be extra careful, update your device only when it is fully charged, and do it in a cool room - preferably air conditioned - to make sure your phone doesn't overheat during the update process.
Hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if you have other questions.
