I have received a System Configuration Update on my Samsung A53 5g.
I'm in South Australia which has recently had Update problems where phones become unusable and have to be wiped after downloading the latest update. I downloaded the update before I heard about this and thankfully had no problems. I had to wipe my last phone after a scam attack and don't want to go through that nightmare again.
Is this System Configuration Update safe to install?

It should be fine to install as the current issue is a firmware update as you know, but I would suggest backing up your data just in case.
Obviously, you can also just wait it out if you're overly concerned.

Out of curiosity, which carrier do you use?

Currently Vodafone
I think I'll call Samsung Helpline and see what they say.

From news clips and internet posts I've seen, several customers that got bricked were with a different carrier.

Maybe why you weren't affected 🤷‍♂️

That wasn't Optus was it? if so maybe that recent **bleep** played a part. The lack of communication from Samsung is a bit average.

There's no official word yet, but in a 7 News video, a customer mentioned a Telstra store, so it's a rather curious situation if it's been caused by a carrier network, likely corrupting the file.

Until Samsung makes a further statement, it's just educated guess work at this point.

I call the Helpline and was told to turn the phone off and back on. It took quite a while for the phone to come back on which was a bit worrying but it optimised and everything is good and the notification is gone. I hope this helps anyone else who may read this.

Why would they bleep out the word **bleep**?

The "bleep" is automatic editing of unacceptable words. If you want to say it try spaces between letters e.g. see if this works s h i t, Do a backup now, go to settings, search for backup and use the Google option if it is there. For phone contacts, if you are happy with syncing to Google, turn on syncing, open Phone, explore, you will find contact numbers in different places., e.g. sim card, phone. Choose Google/as default. You will then have access to this list on other devices when logged into, or using Google.
