It rolled out for the unlocked version as well, runs pretty smoothly.

If you're in Canada, there's no such thing as a "locked" version. 

All mobile devices have been unlocked since 2017.

Well by "unlocked" I mean the unbranded rom, that isn't specifically tied to any carrier, not that the device was ever locked it's self.

Yes, but as soon as you insert a SIM, it effectively becomes x Carrier device. The difference is that you can switch Carriers with no cost, aside from any contract you may have.
