So, not sure if this has been asked before. When updates are released by Samsung, do they push directly to the smartphones, or is it passed to the carriers first and then pushed to the phones. If so, why can't Samsung take a note from Google's Pixel phones and have the updates pushed directly to the phones, and bypass the carriers?

Thanks, and enjoy what's left of your weekend!!😁

Hi soccerdad, whenever insert the SIM card the device gets locked to the carrier, so the security updates for the devices are rolled by the carrier.

But Apple is closed, not like Android is open source. Therefore, Apple bypass carriers, but Android can be customised for carriers.

I did asked before, here is the discussion from members

No. Samsung does it. OMG we went over this, mod! Samsung makes the update. Carriers do some light and unnecessary testing. Carriers submit requests for changes/additions if needed (this only happens once or twice a year). Then, Samsung releases the update. Carriers do not, in any way, release the update. This may be true in USA, where AT&T and Verizon have more advanced involvement in update development and even run their own FOTA servers, but not here or the rest of the world.

Samsung makes a single, one-size-fits-all firmware for every single carrier per model in Canada and the vast majority of the world. And this single firmware is used by everyone. Only the CSC changes, and that's only applied while the update is being installed.

I'm shocked at how much false information has spread lately while I took a break from this place (and still am)

Hi soccerdad,

As mentioned by Cassidy, "Samsung sends to all carriers at the same time and carrier adapt it for them and send it to you" and "whenever insert the SIM card the device gets locked to the carrier, so the security updates for the devices are rolled by the carrier" as mentioned by

Hi CHMultimedia, nice to see you back. There is a step that I do not.understand.

1. Samsung release one fit firmware
2. Carriers submit changes to Samsung
3. Samsung release the update

Now, here is the confusion, after Carriers submitted the changes and last step Samsung release the update, how come the update is push by Carriers? If update is from Samsung, it should be roll out to all devices at the same time. But we received update is by Carriers. Do you know why?
