I had the fortune of visiting Venice during my trip to Italy. As Venice is full of tight corners and packed corridors, I opted to use my trusty #GalaxyS9Plus for flexible photo-taking.

This photo of a few resting gondolas presents the harmony of shapes, and the underlying nature of purpose of each aspect. As you can see, the perpendicular and straight edges of the buildings in the distance as well as the wooden stakes for tying down gondolas represent the rigidity of both the stakes and the buildings, in order to stand up against the forces of nature (in this case, the surrounding water), so as not to get washed away. In stark contrast, the gondola tied to the stake takes on a smooth curved and sweeping shape, as its purpose is not to hold fast, but to flow with/through the water instead. This speaks to the shapes that we must embrace in order to handle the inherently dual nature of water which Bruce Lee so aptly put: “Water can flow, or it can crash”.
