Might be because of the storm clouds combined with yellow sun set color. Just a guess... not an expert here. 😃

Thank you for your theory, here is the reason why we expereince the purple upon my reading-ish hue is produced when fine volcanic aerosols reach the stratosphere and scatter blue light, which when mixed with ordinary sunset red, produces a violet tone. The purple color is often preceded by a yellow arch hugging the horizon.
