Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is today encouraging gamers of every ilk to visit Gamer City at PAX Aus 2024 (Melbourne, 11-13 October) where they can embrace their passion for gaming, streaming, and competition on Samsung devices spanning its Odyssey monitor, Galaxy smartphones, Smart TV and SSD ranges. Across the weekend, fellow citizens of Gamer City will include Australia’s top gaming talent including: Lannan Eacott aka @lazarbeam (43.3m total followers); Lachlan Power @lachlan (26.5m total followers); and, Kathleen Belstan aka @loserfruit (14.9m total followers), who will be available to battle worthy opponents. An Ultimate Gaming Pack comprising over AUD$6,000 of Samsung gaming products will be up for grabs[1] in addition to daily prizes for the fastest drivers in Gamer City.

Built on the foundations of competition, exploration, and community, Samsung’s immersive Gamer City experience at PAX Aus marks the first time that Samsung’s Odyssey monitors, Galaxy smartphones, Smart TVs, and SSD solutions have been showcased together in Australia to demonstrate the collective power of Samsung’s connected gaming ecosystem. With features including big screens, high-performance life-like graphics, and incredibly fast speeds optimised for gaming packed into these devices; Samsung is geared-up to show gamers of every skill level how they can embrace their game anytime, at PAX Aus and beyond.

According to Phil Gaut, Senior Director, Odyssey Monitors and Memory, Samsung Australia, the speed at which gamers are diversifying the devices on which they play, stream, and connect is contributing to the rapid growth of gaming in Australia. In fact, Samsung insights show that since 2023, most frequent daily gaming in Australia occurs on smartphones, ahead of gaming consoles, and PCs[2], with wireless earbuds and SSD storage common accessories that complete a gamers’ kit.

With Odyssey No. 1 for Gaming monitors in Australia and globally[3], Samsung as the Global No.1 TV brand for 18 years running[4], Samsung as the World’s No.1 Flash Memory brand[5], and Samsung the Global No.1 Smartphone provider based on global shipments[6]; Mr. Gaut says Samsung is in a unique position to provide the best gaming experiences for every gamer.

“We’re excited to open the gates of Gamer City at PAX Aus to unleash the full gaming potential of our cross-category devices alongside the best gaming talent in the nation,” said Mr. Gaut. “Our mission is to help every type of gamer get hands-on with our devices to better understand how we’ve pushed the limits of product innovation so Australian’s can game their way, and play to win every time. Underpinning every Samsung gaming device – be it an Odyssey monitor, Smart TV or Galaxy smartphone – is seamless connectivity that enables gamers to switch between these powerful devices as they choose, even mid-game, without missing a beat.”

The best of Samsung Gaming

Central to Samsung’s gaming ecosystem is its industry leading Odyssey gaming monitors, packed with cutting edge innovation to help Australians embrace their game.

  • The 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor features 4K UHD and a 16:9 aspect ratio paired with a 240Hz refresh rate and ultra-fast 0.03ms response time[7] for ultra-smooth game play.
  • The 27-inch Odyssey G6 OLED Gaming Monitor QHDboasts a 360Hz refresh rate making it easy for gamers to navigate fast-paced gameplay. The OLED Glare Free Certified[8] display helps limit distracting reflections enabling incredible colour definition to come alive in vivid detail no matter the game. Both the Odyssey G6 OLED and Odyssey G8 OLED monitors feature Samsung OLED Safeguard+ and Dynamic Cooling System which applies a Pulsating Heat Pipe as a heat dissipation sheet to reduce heat and help prevent burn-in without interfering with gameplay.
  • The 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 gaming monitor brings 1000R curvature to a truly expansive ultra-wide dual UHD display in a 32:9 aspect ratio, wrapping you in the world of gaming. A 240Hz refresh rate pairs with incredibly detailed, pin-sharp images enabling gamers to see more of the action and act with conviction. The Odyssey Neo G9 also features DisplayPort 2.1 which offers nearly triple the bandwidth (80GBPs in total) of DisplayPort 1.4 to support dual-4K 7860 x 2160 resolution.

Traditionally a companion for console gamers, and now a streamers’ delight, Samsung’s Neo QLED and OLED Smart TV ranges are packed with features optimised for gamers.

  • The Samsung OLED S95D 4K Smart TV includes 4K 144Hz VRR and Motion Rate 200, providing crisp visuals at incredibly high speeds[9]. With a Pantone ®-Validated HDR OLED displays and the World’s first Glare-free Certified OLED Display[10], the OLED S95D brings out details up to 70% brighter than OLED HDR+, resulting in richer contrast, brighter colours and deeper blacks[11].
  • Samsung’s Neo QLED QN900D 8K Smart TV is Samsung’s first TV to support 4K content at 240Hz VRR via HDMI 2.1[12]. AI Auto Game mode uses AI to automatically detect the game type and optimise settings for hassle free gaming[13] while AMD FreeSync Premium Pro keeps the GPU and display synced to reduce choppiness, screen-lag, and image tears.

Samsung’s range of 2022, 2023 and 2024 OLED and Neo QLED TVs are equipped with Xbox Game Pass and Gaming Hub[14] – a centralised place to discover and access games from one screen without the need for additional consoles.

For smartphone gamers who like to compete, stream, watch and connect any time, almost anywhere:

  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy enables faster processing to give gamers the power they need for all the gameplay they want. The Galaxy S24 Ultra can also manifest graphic effects in real time with ray tracing for hyper-realistic shadows and reflections. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also includes an optimal thermal control system with a 1.9 times larger vapour chamber[15], improving device surface temperature while maximising performance. A long-lasting battery enables up to 30 hours of video and streaming for uninterrupted play.
  • Galaxy Z Fold6 features a massive 7.6-inch full rectangle display featuring Vision Booster’s powerful brightness and clarity even in broad daylight[16]. In addition to featuring Vulkan API and the newest AP, the Galaxy Z Fold6’s 3 Step Vision Booster also adjusts colour according to illuminance. Support for Ray Tracing brings more advanced graphics to mobile gaming experiences. Galaxy Z Fold6 hits a peak brightness of 2600 nits while its Vapour Chamber area has expanded from previous Fold models to help support extended periods of gameplay.

Samsung understands that picture is only half the story, and supports gamers with soundbars that provide cinematic surround sound, including the Q990D soundbar. This wireless soundbar features True Dolby ATMOS, DTS:X and 11.1.4ch of sound, while syncing with your compatible Samsung TV via Q-Symphony[17] bringing game audio to every inch of your room. Galaxy Buds Pro3 are equipped with a new 11mm speaker and 1.5x amp-enhanced diaphragm delivering a rich dynamic sound, while active noise cancelling features help block out distractions to help keep gamers laser focused[18].

Gaming experiences are elevated with Samsung’s market leading storage technology. Samsung’s range of SSDs includes the 990 PRO series and 990 EVO which are optimised for hard core PC enthusiasts. The 990 PRO with Heatsink provides the ultimate upgrade for console gamers, enabling Australians to explore high-graphic games with quick loads and no overheating while expanding the capacity of devices. Samsung memory solutions offer gamers searing speeds and smooth action for a critical edge while more storage capacity handles a growing game library with ease.
