Why am I not able to sort messages with different criteria on my Samsung Note? I would like to see unread messages on top, and the rest in the order of receipt.

Your unread messages should automatically be sent to the top of the list unless you have a contact pinned to the top.

@Pipato

When you open the messages app, all new messages would appear on top. If you select any particular conversation then the new messages would appear at the bottom.

I removed all the pinned contacts and all messages are shown in the order they're received (read or unread). Unread messages are not automatically shown on top - neither I can sort it that way.

If you go in to the 'Settings' in the Messages app then turn off 'Conversation categories'. The messages will be sorted by most recently received. This worked for me.

The settings don't have the "Conversation Categories" option at all. I've attached screenshots of all settings screens in stepwise sequence.
