Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the background for the always on display. Last year I removed it before the update that removed the option to change it so it had a black background, but I just reformatted my phone and the always on display is using my current lockscreen wallpaper. Even if I change it it will keep using the new current wallpaper. This is kind of redundant since AOD is supposed to use the minimal number of pixels to save battery life, but the wallpaper is always on too. Right now I'm using one of the stock images of stars but I want to change it to a photo of my daughter and I, though it is going to be much brighter. Simulating the phone laying face down on a table or on a pocket makes the screen dimmer, but doesn't go off which means this is going to be on all day.

My device is
Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950W
Android version 8.0
Samsung experience version 9.0

so... just to clarify, instead of having a BLACK background for AOD, it's your homescreen wallpaper instead?

Go into your Samsung gallery. Select a picture from the list. Tap three buttons on top right. Menu opens up where you can set as AOD image.
The image brightness is dependent on surrounding level of light...the screen is on all day because its ALWAYS ON Display.
IF you want a quick peek at info tap the lettering under the AOD icon in your quick panel and you can select how you want to interact with it as in the photo

while I appreciate the help, I do fully understand the definition of the term "always on" and I'm not looking to turn it off. I'm looking to remove the image so it isn't consuming as much battery. and it seems that you missed the operating system version of my device. this version doesn't have the tap to show option.
