Hey all,

I like to play trivia on my phone by using hey Google. I just got the 8.0 UI rollout I believe a week and a half ago now. Everything for the most part is great and I like the fact that I can place rules on Gemini that are saved.

As of last night I can only get through around 2 or 3 trivia questions until it just stops working and I can't activate the microphone I just have to exit all together. I've tried clearing the cache and Gemini and clearing the phones cache and retraining my voice and deactivating then reactivating my microphone but I'm still having the same issues. Basically I will just see the circle cycling and everything else like the microphone is grayed out and the screen is white.

Is there a workaround for this? I also speak German so I added that as a second language through my Google account but then I deleted it so it's only English because sometimes it was coming out German. Even so, this didn't help either.

Does anyone have any tips that I haven't tried yet that might help fix this issue?

Thanks in advance!

I've tried Gemini from time to time, but in my experience, I don't think that it's really ready to replace Google Assistant.

Simple things like, "Hey Google, Play Spotify" didn't work.. with a message something like, "I can't do that yet".

I know that Google is planning on replacing Google Assistant fairly soon, but I hope that they have ALL the bugs sorted out.. Plus, I'm personally not remotely interested in Gemini's A.I. component.

Maybe switch back to Google Assistant for the time being?

Thank you for that information I really appreciate it. So I do have interest in AI as far as making images and playing trivia will I still be able to do this with the Google assistant or is that not an AI? Thanks again!

Gemini is I think primarily used for Searching & Voice commands. You should still be able to use A.I. for Photos, I'm not sure about playing Trivia though.. But generally I don't think that Gemini is fully developed yet.

Hi resung80,

Thank you for sharing your experience. The issue you're encountering with Gemini's microphone functionality may be linked to permission settings or compatibility concerns following the One UI 8.0 update.

We appreciate your detailed feedback regarding the microphone issue while using Gemini for trivia interactions. It's encouraging to hear that you've already taken several proactive steps, including clearing cache, retraining voice recognition, and adjusting language settings.

Here are a few additional steps you may consider:

  1. Verify Microphone Permissions

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Gemini > Permissions > Microphone.

    • Ensure it is set to “Allow only while using the app” or “Ask every time”.

    • If permissions appear greyed out or preset by Google, try toggling them via App Info > Special Access > Modify System Settings.

  2. Disable Battery Optimization

    • Navigate to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > Background Usage Limits.

    • Add Gemini to the list of apps not optimized to prevent it from being restricted during use.

  3. Test Without Bluetooth Devices

  4. Reinstall Gemini

    • Uninstall and reinstall the Gemini app to ensure the latest version is installed and properly configured.

  5. Submit Feedback to Google

    • You can report the issue directly via the Gemini app > Settings > Help & Feedback. Include system logs if prompted to assist with diagnosis.

  6. Language Settings

    • Although you've removed German as a secondary language, ensure that Voice Match and Assistant Language settings reflect only English to avoid residual conflicts.

We understand how disruptive this can be, especially when using voice-based features for entertainment and productivity. Your feedback is valuable and contributes to improving compatibility across devices and updates.

These were the first steps I took and then I tapped on the three dots at the top right corner to see if I could modify anything or find anything about a microphone but that was all grayed out too I will show you in my next post1761766928350.jpg1761766928361.jpg1761766928375.jpg1761766928384.jpg

These were the final steps and there was nowhere else to go when I tried to clear the cache for Gemini it was already at zero so there was nothing to remove. Thanks again so much for your help!1761767048337.jpg1761767048349.jpg
