An app absolutely should not get to control my phone's brightness. Ever. This is an accessibility issue. I have photosensitivity and certain apps that I need to use regularly pump my screen's brightness to max.

I really, really hope Samsung makes a setting for this, or adds it to app permissions that you can disable

You could change your phone to use dark mode and then your screen brightness shouldn't be made brighter by apps

I guess viewing videos may still be able to make your screen brighter

oh yeah that's definitely not what dark mode does lol. it just changes apps to have black backgrounds, it does not restrict apps from messing with your screen brightness

I can confirm that dark mode still allows screen brightness to be pumped to max by apps - I'm always on dark mode

Hi, just to confirm is it happening with any particular app?

If yes, you can try to perform Clear cache for the app and check for the issue.

clearing cache did not work. The app is programmed to do this, it's not an accident. An app shouldn't be allowed to take over my brightness, this should be a permissions issue
