Having alot of issues with my S22 battery after the recent Dec 1, 2024 Security Patch Update. Battery before the Update was working completely normal and now drains extremely fast whether I am using the phone or not. Have already done the troubleshoot of checking if apps in background are using battery and clearing the cache partition. We shouldn't have to factory reset our phone, it's a widespread issue after this Security update when I looked into other Samsung users on forums posting about it and Samsung should address it immediately.

There was an update scheduled for yesterday according to Telus Update Schedule that will likely be coming first part of the week that hopefully might help with your battery problem

My brother was the one that posted this and he woke up with his battery completely swollen, went to an authorized samsung repair centre and they said motherboard would need to be replaced....just going online and reading forums shows you that after the update thousands of samsungs whether it be s22 or s24's have all been bricked after the software update and samsung refuses to address it...because of their incompetence he lost all his data, the update did something to the motherboard which in turn was effecting the battery...complete unfair for samsung to say they will provide updates for their flagship phones for 4 or 5 yrs when 1 update can completely destroy a phone...he had 0 problems with the phone before it...this is horrible by samsung and he's going to end up having all of us switch to iphones

Hi SaintSoldier,

We completely understand your frustration, especially when the update seems to have impacted the battery performance on your Galaxy S22. We appreciate your efforts that you’ve already tried some basic troubleshooting steps like clearing the cache and checking background apps.

Please check for battery draining app.  Go to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > Battery Usage. Look for apps that are consuming an unusual amount of battery. If you find any apps misbehaving, you can force stop them or uninstall/reinstall them.

Disable adaptive battery: Go to Settings > Battery and disable Adaptive Battery. This feature can sometimes behave erratically after updates.

Booting in Safe Mode helps determine if any third-party apps are causing the issue. In Safe Mode, only system apps run.

  • To enter Safe Mode: Press and hold the Power button > tap and hold Power Off until Safe Mode appears.
  • Check battery usage in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If battery drain stops, it’s likely an app causing the issue. You can start uninstalling apps one by one to pinpoint the culprit.

It's unfortunate that a security update is causing such a significant issue, and hopefully these steps help to resolve the issue.

Thank you.
