Hey lovely community, gotta question I'd like to ask, have an S21+ that can support esim and sim card.

Im going overseas, to Lebanon. Getting a local sim card when I'm there will disconnect my whatsapp account, and I dont want to go through the 'change number' feature on whatsapp because i didnt work last time i tried it.

I'm thinking I'll do the following, let me know if this works:

1- Transfer my Vodafone sim card to eSIM before I leave.
2- Get a local sim card in Lebanon
3- Local sim card gives me internet
4- eSIM keeps my whatsapp account connected through the number associated with it
5- Happy days.

Will this work?

Thanks guys.

Yes it will work. As long as you don't log out of Whatsapp you are ok. (But back up incase if you want to be safe)

I have S22 and you can have multiple esims set up on your phone as well. I actually converted my Optus to an esim, and also got esim in Thailand without losing my Whatsapp and other account access. I used local esim mostly but when I needed my AU number for some work stuff, I just switched esim to my optus on those days and it worked beautifully.

You can set up esim for overseas providers (if they offer it) as long as you have internet access before you travel as well. They send you a link or a QR code and that just sets it up.

No more physical sims!

Your esim needs to have an overseas provider or be connected to wifi to work. Check both accounts to see if roaming is available in Lebanon and at competitive rates. If you transfer the esim to another account or swap the sim card make sure you can still receive codes for purchase verification - information from your bank web page. My wife is planning to use vodafone roaming later this year but check if Lebanon is available. Customs can take your phone for inspection so tidy up any connections to cloud storage or confidential material.

I was told by Vodafone that altogether S22 Ultra can accommodate 2 Sims mix and match between Esim and physical SIM. Were they wrong in saying???? Are you saying I can have multiple esims in S22 Ultra????? @Samsungclaudette can you clarify the real fact????

Thank you so much for your response and reassurance!

Considering Lebanon doesnt have esims at all, an esim from vodafone here and a sim card there will be the ideal combo. If whatsapp will still have the aussie number and the simcard will connect me to local 4G internet thats great.

Otherwise itll have to
be an additional phone with the sim card to hotspot from and then ive got 2 phones and a powerbank to carry around all day!

Thanks again!

No probs. If you go to Settings -> Connections -> Sim Manager, it will allow you to choose which sim you want to use for calls, messages, and data so you can actually use multiple sims for each of those functions if you need to as well. I still have my Thailand esim on my phone (as I got a yearly contracted esim for when I go back). Hope you have a great travel!Screenshot_20230731_162316_Call settings.jpg

I am a bit of an early adopter, so I like to test things out. I thought you could only have one esim only to find out you can have multiple (I think 5??) and that's when I switched my Optus to esim to leave physical sim space available for those countries that don't offer an esim. 😁
