As part of the renegotiation of their revenue-sharing agreement, Google is reportedly willing to pay Samsung to see Bixby and the Galaxy Store retired. The South Korean manufacturer seems reluctant, however.

Like other major manufacturers in the Android sphere, Samsung benefits from a revenue sharing agreement with Google. Concretely, this is a form of profit-sharing: part of the income derived from advertising on Google's services preinstalled on the terminals of the South Korean manufacturer is transferred to the latter for their close collaboration. In fact, this mechanism is not only a bonus for the main players in the Google ecosystem, but also a more or less subtle way of encouraging them to highlight the company's tools.

Reuters and Bloomberg were both able to view recent exchanges between the two giants, as they were due to agree on a new deal by the end of July. It emerges from these communications that Google has put on the table an increase in the revenue share returned to Samsung in exchange for certain adjustments. In essence, Google would like to have more control over searches in general on Samsung devices, which would include putting the virtual assistant Bixby in the closet and preferring Google Assistant. Likewise, the Galaxy Store, Samsung's application store, is seen as unwanted competition for the Play Store. Google would therefore like its abandonment.

According to a source involved in the negotiations, these are not new requests from Google. The firm has been trying for several years to push Samsung to promote its services and reduce the competition preinstalled on the smartphones and tablets of the Asian manufacturer. However, this request would not necessarily meet with very sustained interest. Samsung, for its part, should indeed give up tools over which it has full control, without having to share the income. In addition, it needs an alternative application store to maintain itself in the Chinese market, even if it is proving very difficult for Samsung at the moment.

Contacted, the two heavyweights recognized the holding of negotiations and the nature of Google's proposals. For the Mountain View firm, there is nothing exceptional in this deal and no desire to force anyone's hand; Samsung is free to accept or reject the new conditions. The latter, in parallel, denies any intention to give up on Bixby or its Galaxy Store, which he presents as important pieces of its ecosystem.

I'm curious about what the people in China have to say about the Galaxy store.🤔 maybe it's just just because we are lucky to have the play store. because at least for me the Galaxy store doesn't have much in the line of apps I actually use...... actually I don't think any. 🤷🏻♂️ Bixby on the other hand is.............let's say a mixed bag.
