Since I'm working from home every day now, I'm on wifi at all times now. I notice when I try to send a pic through text, that it doesn't send. It's because my phone for whatever reason stops switching over to data when needed. I'll turn off wifi to test it and it doesn't connect to my mobile network (Virgin Mobile in Canada). "Mobile Data" is always turned on in the settings.

I'll reboot the phone, data starts working fine again, I'll turn off wifi to test and it connects to data immediately. Then later in the day, again it stops switching over to data until I reboot the phone. Toggling the "Mobile Data" slider doesn't work either. Only a restart from what I've tried so far. I made sure the SIM card is in properly.

Is there a setting I'm missing that can fix this or something else that I am missing?

Try turn off WiFi and let the mobile data sit for half day. Will your data disconnect?

Thanks for the reply. I'll give this a shot first. I'll leave the wifi off all afternoon and evening today and see.

You can try Shaggyskunk1 suggestion too. But I noticed that after reboot and mobile connected. So try to see if it is your mobile signal issue.

Before you reset your network settings. Make sure you know your WiFi SSID and passphrase. (Some users have their WiFi setup by someone. Just in case)

I kept wifi off all afternoon, evening, and overnight and it looks like the phone stayed connected to data all the way through. I was checking throughout the evening yesterday.

Turning on wifi again now (for work) and will see if I have the same issue later in the day.

Hi Qwyjibo, I forgot to ask you try the following :

Settings →Connections →Wi Fi → 3 dots on top right→Advanced

Switch to Mobile
Can you verify is turned on ?
If not, enable it and test it out.

"Switch to mobile" is definitely turned on.

So after a few more days, the ONLY time this happens is when I receive or send a multimedia text through the standard Samsung Messages app. I will try to send or receive a pic via text and see that it's just "stuck" loading. I turn off my Wifi and it doesn't switch to data. Reboot required.

I've turned off Wifi several times in other cases and the data kicks in right away. But for some reason not with MMS texts. I tried to play around with the "Auto retrieve" setting in the Messages app but nothing.

I have no idea what to make of this.

Try this:
Settings - General Management - Reset Network Settings - Reboot & Test.
