I am coming from Iphone and am really missing convenient of not using whatsapp and calling directly from the messages app. Is there a way we can use calling on internet without an app? Android to android. I really dont want to use whatsapp.

Why samsung/google can't replicate what Apple have with their imessage? I know RCS but it doesn't have calling option.

To call from android to android you need to use whatsapp.

I live in overseas and my life depends on it.

I believe Google messages do this and it is pre-installed on Samsung phones these days. Its for android to android but it needs to be on both phones like a whatsapp which is the difference to the imessages that is built in all iphones.

You select they're name and it'll ask you if you wish to call. When you call it'll use internet if you want to check if Ur using internet swipe to quick settings and look for wifi calling and make sure it's on

The problem is, besides Google, who also own and develops Android, there are a large number of manufacturers using the Android platform, whereas Apple owns and develops iOS and the devices that use it.

The closest thing on Android may be Google Meet.
I don't use it, though, so I can't comment on how good or bad it is.

Agree. You can use Google Meet.

Google tried by introducing Google Allo and Google Duo before. But of course, it's Google, killing apps is their hobby. 😂

Using S23 FE. I have Google Messages and can make calls to received messages except where the sender uses a code to send a message. This seems to be used for messages where they don't want you to reply to that number. For instance it occurs with Good Guys but not with Bunnings. With Bunnings it immediately opens phone dialer as normal with the number showing. If What's App comes up I suspect you need to check your default phone dial settings. Elsewhere in this forum I read of another convert 🤣 who had to login to Apple account and uninstall?/ change settings before What's App would work properly in his android.

It occurred to me to mention that I have a dual sim phone and in the drag down phone settings I can chose one number, the other number, or select which as a default Similarly it may be that you can set the option to allow you to select dial out option to allow your dial out number or What's App. Don't know if this would show up in Google Messages as an option. I suspect it would as the option shows up in the dialer window.

Of course this means you would have to choose dial up option on every outgoing call. Works o.k. for me, only one additional click.
