Have you set the zoom settings to .6?
1.0 is standard but .6 seems to take better macro shots.
Sometimes it takes time to get the focus right because of the distance from the subject and the space between sensors and lens.

What device do you have?

I've seen other members here, post some pretty amazing close up pics of everything from flowers to extreme close ups of insects.

So I know that Samsung's cameras are very capable of high quality close ups.
