Galaxy SA Factory Reset seems to be a bit extreme with the information provided.
I'd start with verifying that it's not a network issue. Clearing Cache & Data for the app, then see if you can uninstall the updates to the app & update it
A Factory Reset is probably the last thing I would try based on what was said, especially because it's just one app that is an issue.

Galaxy SIf you're talking about Samsung Messages, it's possible that it's a network connection issue.
If you are talking about Samsung Messages, try using WiFi or Cell Data & see if you notice any difference?
