Galaxy S
Here are some of my ideas that Samsung could implement for a better user experience. They could implement some of these features with their next OneUi update!
1. Device-Specific Bluetooth Logos
Feature: Instead of just the standard Bluetooth logo at the top of the screen, Samsung could show icons representing the connected devices, like Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch, or other Bluetooth accessories.
Explanation: This provides immediate visual feedback on which devices are connected, making it easier to identify and manage your connected devices without needing to access the Bluetooth settings. It would streamline the process of checking whether your devices (e.g., Galaxy Buds, Watch) are paired and connected, helping users troubleshoot faster.
2. Add Calculator to Drop-Down Menu
Feature: Adding a calculator button directly in the Quick Settings drop-down menu, similar to Google’s Pixel devices or Apple’s iOS Control Center.
Explanation: This addition would offer quick access to basic calculations without needing to search for the app or leave the current task. It simplifies multitasking and is especially useful for on-the-go situations where users need to make quick calculations.
3. Integrate Nearby Share with Quick Share
Feature: Merging Samsung’s Quick Share and Google’s Nearby Share into a unified sharing system.
Explanation: By integrating both systems, users would no longer need to choose between two options. This would streamline the process of sharing files across devices, making it faster and easier to share data between Samsung and non-Samsung devices using one consistent protocol.
4. Make Quick Share Compatible with iOS
Feature: Enabling Quick Share to work with iOS devices, allowing seamless sharing between Android and Apple ecosystems.
Explanation: Currently, iOS devices and Android devices have limited interoperability when it comes to file sharing. Making Quick Share compatible with iOS would break down this barrier, providing a universal sharing system between both major platforms and improving collaboration and communication for users across ecosystems.
5. Flashlight Always On for Photos
Feature: Allowing the flashlight to stay on when taking photos, not just for video.
Explanation: This would provide consistent lighting in dark environments, similar to how the flashlight stays on for video recording. It enhances the ability to capture clearer photos in low-light conditions without relying solely on the flash, which can sometimes be too sudden or harsh.
6. Stop Motion Feature in Camera App
Feature: Integrating a stop-motion animation tool directly into the camera app.
Explanation: Stop motion is a fun and creative form of filmmaking that could become more accessible to casual users if built into Samsung’s native camera app. With step-by-step guidance, users could create simple or professional-quality stop-motion videos using their smartphones, without needing external apps.
7. Better Battery Life and Maximum Power Saving Mode
Feature: Reintroducing the Maximum Power Saving Mode with more aggressive power-saving features for One UI.
Explanation: Samsung's power-saving features can be further enhanced by reducing background processes, lowering brightness, and disabling power-hungry features to extend battery life significantly. This would be particularly useful for users who need their phones to last during long trips or emergencies, similar to the ultra power-saving modes in earlier versions of Galaxy devices.
8. Battery Drain Warnings
Feature: Introduce warnings when the phone is draining battery too quickly, especially in cold weather.
Explanation: Cold weather is known to affect battery performance. By alerting users when their battery is being drained faster than expected due to environmental conditions or heavy app usage, users can take necessary actions like closing apps, turning off features, or enabling power-saving modes to extend battery life.
9. Compass App
Feature: Introducing a native compass app for Samsung devices.
Explanation: While many phones have magnetic sensors capable of providing directional information, having a dedicated compass app would be useful for outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, or users who need to navigate without relying on GPS. The compass app could also provide additional functionality such as tracking altitude or barometric pressure.
10. Samsung’s Version of Dynamic Island
Feature: Samsung’s alternative to iOS’s Dynamic Island, using the punch-hole camera area for notifications and interactions.
Explanation: Dynamic Island is a popular feature on iPhone, using the pill-shaped cutout for alerts and real-time notifications. Samsung could implement a similar feature, where notifications like calls, music controls, or app statuses appear around the punch-hole camera cutout. This would make use of screen space more creatively and give users quicker access to important information.
11. More Lockscreen Widgets
Feature: Expanding the lockscreen to allow more widgets.
Explanation: Adding more customizable lockscreen widgets would allow users to access key information (like weather, calendar, or fitness data) without unlocking their phone. This would provide a better at-a-glance experience, especially if widgets are interactive.
12. Galaxy Wearables Features
For Galaxy Watches:
Remote Google Messages Access: Enable Google Messages remote control via Galaxy Watches, not limited to Samsung Messages.
Explanation: Google Messages is widely used on Android devices, and this feature would allow Galaxy Watch users to manage their messages from their watch without needing to use Samsung’s messaging app exclusively, providing a more cohesive Android experience.
Medication Reminder Feature for Under 18s: Extend Samsung Health’s medication reminder feature to all users, including those under 18.
Explanation: Medication reminders can help young users manage their health, whether they need to take daily prescriptions or other treatments. Enabling this feature for minors (with proper parental controls) would make Galaxy Watches a valuable tool for family health management.
These features would build on Samsung’s already strong One UI experience, enhancing customization, usability, and cross-device integration for Android users.
13. Remote Phone Locking via Galaxy Watch
Feature: Add the ability to lock the phone screen directly from the Galaxy Watch or automatically lock the phone when the watch is out of range.
Explanation: This feature would provide enhanced security by allowing users to remotely lock their phone from their Galaxy Watch, making it convenient in case they forget to lock it manually. Additionally, if the watch moves out of Bluetooth range, the phone could automatically lock and require a PIN or biometric authentication to unlock. This would prevent unauthorized access if the phone is left behind, ensuring both devices work together to maintain security.
