I'm having terrible battery life with my phone; about a year old; I keep apps running to a minimum; really only d/l larger items on wifi; do use a fast charger probably more than I should but definitely use stock charger overnight. Even then it doesn't last very long. Is there a theme or wallpaper that uses less power? Or an easy fix? I use the Samsung maintenance utility often to help with battery and clean up storage etc. I hope I don't have to constantly put my phone in a battery savings mode. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@muskokacam, a few things you could try to help figure out what's draining your battery.
1 - Install BetteryBatteryStats from Google Play ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats ) it will help you determine is your phone is going into Deep Sleep or not when not in use.
2 - Install GSam Battery monitor Pro from Google Play, there's a free and paid version ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm ) it will show you what apps are using battery and what % of battery the app is using.
3 - A good way to test things out after installing both apps: - Charge your phone fully - Boot into recovery and wipe cache - Once phone is booted back up, let it charge for a few minutes while the phone completes it's initial apps loading, I usually about 5 minutes - Remove from charger, turn screen off and try not to use it for an hour - Then launch BetterBatteryStats and select "Summary / Unplugged / Current" you'll then be able to see if your phone's awake and deep sleep times - Use Gsam to check what app are using up your battery.
That's what I do to check mine from time to time.
Other Samsung members might also have other ideas.

Follow suggestions from @Cprice. I have S8+ and with Oreo I get whole day battery life with heavy gaming, maps, taking loads of pictures and watching a full wqhd+ movie at night. S8+ battery lasts more than any other Samsung phones including S9/S9+.
