I would think the latest flagships would get the patch sooner. Does Samsung do this on purpose and use older devices as guinea pigs?

Nah, I'm thinking that it's possible, that Samsung has been testing One UI V5.1 on the S22 series, since the S23 will be running One UI 5.1 out of the box, and will be released in roughly a week or so.

S22 series will be the first device to get the One UI V5.1 update.

If it's a Canadian device, there's no such thing as a Locked device since December 2017. 

The A53 received One UI V5.0 in December, according to Samsung Members Canada.
