Recently I have had problems with Google Maps, including losing the GPS, losing the voice directions, receiving incorrect information. The battery seems to be running low very quickly. I have also lost my contacts.

If anyone has any solutions I would appreciate it.

Hi Tuk2014,

Please try to wipe the cache partition of your device and follow the link provided by the Cassidy, for the steps of Wipe cache partition.

If you have a backup on Samsung Cloud, Then restoring your data is simple. You can transfer/restore it to a new or different device using the Restore feature. Follow the below steps:
Open Settings >> Tap Accounts and backup >> Tap Backup and restore >> Tap Restore data, select your desired device, and then select the content you want to restore(Eg: Contacts) >> Tap Next >> Tap Restore. If needed, follow the on-screen instructions to download your backup data.

I also face the gps problem recently, weak signal a lot of times and no signal at all during some evening hours. I try some of my old phones side by side, and still get the same results, so it is not the phones' problems but the gps'. I hope Samsung can incorporate the Chinese Beidou system in their phones.

Hi KKC123,

There are several reasons why a phone's or tablet's GPS signal may not work properly, such as a communication failure with the satellite. Other times, it could be because your Location is disabled or because you are not using the best Location method.

Please check permissions for the GPS app. Follow the below steps:

Navigate to and open Settings on your device >> Tap on Location >> Tap App permissions to view your apps.
Apps that have location enabled constantly will be listed under ALLOWED ALL THE TIME. If your GPS app is listed under this section, then the location is enabled.

Apps that use your device’s location only when you open them are listed under ALLOWED ONLY WHILE IN USE. Apps that are not allowed to use your location are listed under DENIED.

Also, If your GPS app requires permission, tap it, and then choose to Allow all the time. Now your GPS app will be allowed to use your location whenever it's necessary.

Thanks, I am using S8 and Anthoid 9 with UI 1.0 and doesn't have the choices of permission that you said. Anyway, i am now using the full permission with the highest gps accuracy with wifi enabled but not bluetooth. The location is always on. There were no locational problems in the first two years that i bought the S8. It appears only in recent two months. I hope it is not the phone's hardware deterioration. Thanks for your valuable advices and your time. Enjoy your coming long weekend. I will test the gps during our family trip to the countryside at that time.
