S22 Apps Crashing after updates

I’m honestly at my wits’ end with this update. Ever since I installed One UI 8 on my S22 Ultra (Canada), both Samsung Gallery and Smart Switch have completely stopped working  and nothing I’ve tried has fixed it.

The Gallery app crashes the second I open it, even in Safe Mode. I’ve cleared cache and data, wiped cache partition, rebooted multiple times, and nothing changes. The “Repair apps” option doesn’t exist in recovery mode, and both “Disable” and “Uninstall updates” are greyed out. When I check the Galaxy Store, it says “This app isn’t compatible with your device anymore.”

To make things worse, Smart Switch also won’t load  it just freezes on startup and OneDrive sync inside Gallery doesn’t work either. That means I can’t even back up my data. Basically, my phone is stuck: I can’t use Gallery, can’t back up to Samsung Cloud, and can’t transfer data out.

I really don’t want to factory reset a $1,600 phone just because Samsung’s own apps aren’t compatible with their new firmware. It’s honestly disappointing.

Is anyone else in Canada seeing this after updating to One UI 8? Or has anyone found a workaround? I’d appreciate hearing if a patch is on the way, because at this point my phone feels unusable.

Really frustrated with Samsung!

Hi Samsung_1uoacg5,

Thank you for sharing your experience following the One UI 8 update on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. We understand how disruptive it is when core applications such as Samsung Gallery and Smart Switch fail to function, particularly when they are essential for accessing and safeguarding personal data.

The troubleshooting steps you have already attempted—clearing cache and data, wiping the cache partition, rebooting, and checking compatibility through the Galaxy Store—demonstrate thorough diligence. The persistence of the issue despite these measures suggests that the problem may be linked to the current firmware build rather than device‑specific settings.

We recommend submitting an error report directly through the Samsung Members app so that system logs can be reviewed by our technical team. This will help determine whether the issue is widespread in your region and whether a corrective patch is forthcoming. In the meantime, please ensure that your device software and Galaxy Store apps remain updated, as compatibility fixes are often released incrementally.

Your feedback is invaluable, and we regret the inconvenience this has caused. Rest assured that our teams are working to identify and resolve compatibility concerns with One UI 8 to restore full functionality as quickly as possible.

I really doubt that it's related to the One UI V8.0 update... if it were, you would see loads of people with the same issues with Smart Switch & Samsung's Gallery.

Pretty sure that it's something specific related to your Settings or possibly 3rd party apps.

I'd try Booting into Safe Mode and test the apps you're having trouble with.

My Galaxy ZFlip3 did go under a loop of updating multiple times for One UI 7 until I stop the autoupdate option, and then it stopped. Hope this is helpful.
