I curious to see what the community has to say regarding the 7 year guaranteed OS updates for the s24 ultra. Realistically if I wanted to keep the phone for those 7 years, is it capable of lasting 7 years specifically the screen and battery provided I religiously take care and maintain the phone...do you all think 7 years is possible?

I dont see any reason why not. Id maybe consider a battery swap after three years or so.

Perhaps a full device reset every couple of years if needed.

I just had an S7 tablet on major heavy duty usage, screen on, running on background 12 hours a day or more. Still mint when I swapped it for the latest.

I can't think of any universe, where I would use a device for more than 3 or 4 years maximum, as the phone I would be using daily.

To me the biggest advantage of 7 years of updates, is for resale.

I recently sold my S20 Ultra One UI V5.1 for $400, if it were to receive 3 more years of updates, I would expect I would have been able to sell it for closer to $600.

Mind you, the phone was as in brand new condition, not a mark, scratch or even the tiniest of blemishes.. it was perfect, and protected with Whitestone Dome Tempered Glass & an Incipio DualPro Case since new.

Hi Slimsy,

The S24 Ultra’s high-end hardware should handle typical tasks for many years, the phone is built to run well long-term with careful use, regular cleaning and occasional maintenance keeping the S24 Ultra for the full 7 years is very feasible.

The OS updates will ensure security and feature support, so it would still feel current.

Thank you Fatwa and RedDogRabbit for sharing your opinions.

I don't know maybe if it's guaranteed 7 years of updates the phone can last 7 years .

My husband has an s20 and I have galaxy note 20 and we are still on our original battery and screen. We are happy and still get updates. We are both getting a watch and when our phones go, we will get the new ones.. I think it depends on the model you get and original color. Once you start getting the added stuff on the original make I believe that is where the issues start. Just from experience of past phones and my clear observation is all. Some may think I'm weird or crazy but I truly believe that is the issue.

S20 is only getting quarterly Security Patch Updates & the Note 20 isn't far behind, if not already there.

I hung in to my S20 Ultra for as long as I could, just because it had an external sd card.. I really wish that Samsung would bring back the external sd card.. You can lose data, images etc with cloud storage.. it has happened!

I had the s20 ultra as well. Outstanding phone. Didn't want to get rid of it but the lack of OS updates and the fact that security updates will be done in a years time was the deciding factor
