Galaxy SWith the rollout of One UI 7, Samsung is making significant changes to its ecosystem, notably phasing out DeX for Windows. DeX, which allows Galaxy devices to offer a desktop-like experience on larger screens, has been a valuable tool for productivity enthusiasts since its debut in 2017. However, the Windows-specific DeX application will no longer be supported under the latest update. This move highlights Samsung's strategic shift in how it envisions the integration between smartphones and PCs.
Instead of DeX for Windows, Samsung is encouraging users to adopt the "Link to Windows" feature. This tool enables seamless interaction between Galaxy devices and Windows PCs, allowing access to notifications, file transfers, calls, and app mirroring without creating a full desktop environment. While this simplifies connectivity, it lacks the multitasking capabilities and full-screen app functionality that DeX provided.
Despite the discontinuation of Windows support, Samsung DeX remains operational for other platforms like monitors and TVs, preserving its core desktop experience for users who rely on non-Windows displays.
Samsung's decision may stem from overlapping functionality between DeX and Link to Windows. By focusing on the latter, Samsung aligns more closely with Microsoft's ecosystem, fostering a streamlined experience for Galaxy and Windows users. However, for long-time DeX fans, the loss of Windows support may feel like a step back in productivity options.
Users looking for a similar desktop-mode solution on Windows may need to explore alternative setups or continue using DeX with older firmware versions, though this is not a long-term solution due to potential security risks.

It sounds like they're trying to streamline the user experience. Having two apps that do similar things can be confusing. Focusing on one app could lead to better development and support. Ultimately, a more refined product benefits everyone. We're interested to see how this develops!
We would say, let's try it and if we are not happy then think about switching. Although no other happy alternative is out there at the moment.

"This is simply a matter of Samsung simplifying offerings, because Microsoft has been working on similar functionality for a while now, one that's not just compatible with Samsung phones but with other Android-powered devices as well. Link to Windows offers the same feature set and is obviously far more optimized." Quoted from SAMMOBILE site
anyway the unique option most people don't want Samsung to stop.
