Galaxy SThe vertical green line issue is spreading across devices featuring OLED screens. The vertical line develops due to internal component failure on the OLED display. The problem usually appears on certain models around two years of usage.
BangkokPost reports that the Thailand Consumers Council and 119 consumers have filed a class action lawsuit against Samsung. The company’s Thai division reportedly refused to pay compensation for defective devices.
Samsung offers one year of limited warranty in most countries. In case the green line appears post-warranty period, the consumer has to bear the repair cost. As there’s no fault from the user’s end, it becomes quite frustrating to handle the situation.
In India, Samsung offers free-of-cost screen replacement given OLED defects. The consumer simply needs to hand over their OLED phone to the repair executive. If your phone has no sign of physical or water damage, you will get an FOC replacement.
An equivalent policy is seemingly unavailable in Thailand. As the matter turned into a legal battle, Samsung could end up offering FOC screen replacement to win the hearts of consumers, rather than fighting the legal fight with its own consumers.
Sophon Nurat, a division head of the TCC, said the lawsuit was filed with Bangkok’s Southern Civil Court. He said: “users had complained about mysterious vertical green or pink lines on phone screens in various Samsung Galaxy models.”
As usual, consumers reached out to Samsung support. Their problem remains unresolved as the product is out of warranty. “The company’s failure to fix the problems or compensate is deemed to violate consumers’ rights” the lawsuit reads.

Galaxy SSo, I purchased a new in box unopened Samsung S22+ In April from an ebay store. The Phone is in perfect condition, so it is basically less then 3 months old. I performed the update and the green lines appeared. So, it is totally planned obsolescence. In addition, I have been told that Samsung will not honor the warrantee, since the store I purchased it from, purchased the inventory from another store or warehouse and they are back posting the sale date to when the inventory was transferred from one store to another, which is pretty sketchy. The sale date should be when a customer buys and then opens and uses the item, not when a store purchases inventory.
