Just upgraded from S21 to S23 and I can't seem to find a way to change the Video call button to the messages button in the phone app. Seems the most efficient way to start a new messages conversation was through accessing contacts with the phone app and having the messages button there. I'm wondering if this is no longer an option or not and if it is where to find it?

Go to your Contacts & you should have what you're looking for.

Thanks for your reply but I should clarify. I mean it seems the most efficient way to find a contact is using the dialer and having the message button on the dialer meant near instant access to a conversation. Why remove that as a feature?

Don't know, but the Video Call option is available for me, as soon as I start to dial a number from the Dialer.

Opening from Contacts and you have the options in my previous screen shot.

Yes, it is available for me as well as soon as I type a number in the dialer. I get that I can just go to Contacts but that's like a whole few extra seconds I just don't have time for. Simpler the old way. Zoomers and their video calls smh

Is your S23 running One UI V5.1.1?

Because my S20 Ultra One UI V5.1 doesn't have what you are looking for either... And I don't remember it being any other way? 🤔

Well, if it's just greyed out on the latter version, perhaps that'll be fixed with an update?

You could also try:

  • Booting into Safe Mode, see if a 3rd party app is causing the issue?
  • Boot into Recovery & Wipe Cache, see if there's some fragmented files disabling it on the Dialer?
  • See if anyone else with the same Dialer version has the same thing?
  • Only other thing, Backup your device with Smart Switch & Factory Reset.

Negative. The grayed out button is not an issue. I prefer that button to be disabled because I don't want to be video calling my clients all the time. To be clear my issue with the "video call button" is that it is not a feature I will ever use. I would prefer to have the old "messages button" that existed during phone app version 14.1.15. I am looking to see if there is a way or option to bring the message button back to the phone app version 14.1.31
