Why MST payment method isn't working on Samsung Pay Canada with Scotiabank Debit

Hi there. I use Samsung Pay for my everyday transactions, and my card is Scotiabank Visa Debit. As far as I know, Samsung Pay supports proprietary MST payments that is very useful where NFC Tap payment is not accepted. But it isn't working for me. I tried using Samsung Pay on outlets without NFC payment support, and absolutely nothing happens!
I can't find any option either to see if MST is active or not. My device is S8+. I researched a lot but to no avail.
So my question are there any members who were able to use MST payment with their debit card?? Why is this not working? Or is it because MST payment is not supported on Debit / or here in Canada?

I don't think it's supported yet with Scotia bank. But I could be wrong

Samsung Pay completely works with it and uses nfc. so mst should also work right? But yeah

I see Steve01 has answered your question. I know Samsung Pay is supported with Scotia bank I just knew Mst was only supported with something and didn't remeber. But as Steve01 said only certain cards can support it.

Samsung Pay MST support is only available for Visa/MasterCard and Amex. Debit transactions/Interac only supports NFC payments where Interac Flash is supported.

I'd observed the same: no problem using MST on Visa, but no luck with debit.

yea mst isnt needed on interac as interact removed the swipe feature on debit cards long long time ago. The only reason we still have the swipe reader on most terminals are for foreign cards.

I do have a Scotiabank credit and debit card and it works perfectly fine with the Samsung pay
