I notice on my s 23 ultra battery draining too fast. When i checked in settings, i saw that You Tube using way more battery, and i don't even watch anything in 2K or 4K quality to use more battery. This is from today so far. For 2h 36m used 36.8%. I'm wondering will there be any update for optimizations or anything to improve this.Thank You

Force quit the app.
Check if there are any updates in either PlayStore,
Or in Google Play Services?
Settings, About, Software select Google or similar therein (sry i forgot the actual listing but it's there) and update.
You may need to update twice as I think i had to in order to get the Google Play Services Feb update on my S23 (non Plus/Ultra).

Also see if there is an overall software or security patches pending for you Galaxy S 23 Ultra (S23U)

Edit:

This screenshot is much clearer. 1742873677832.jpg1742873677861.jpg1742873677877.jpg

Once all done reboot.
If still an issue i think you can clear the YouTube App Cache but I'm uncertain.

@RedDogRabbit may be on vacation or just seeing if we can level up to help his expert help for others and leave him the truly challenging or interesting stuff (maybe I'm guessing /s I kid)

Hi K2_FX,

Battery usage can vary depending on how apps are optimized and how they're used in the background, so we completely understand your concern about YouTube's high battery consumption.

Here are some steps you can take while waiting for potential future updates that might include optimizations:

Check Video Quality Settings in YouTube. Even if you're not manually choosing 2K or 4K, YouTube may automatically adjust the quality to the highest resolution available.

Open the YouTube app. Play a video and tap the Settings (gear) icon.

Choose Quality and set it to a lower resolution, such as 480p or 720p, to reduce battery usage.

Restrict Background Activity for YouTube. The YouTube app might be running unnecessary background processes.

Go to Settings > Apps > YouTube > Battery. Select Restricted or disable background activity for YouTube to prevent it from using resources when not in use.

YouTube updates often include fixes for performance or battery issues: Open the Google Play Store. Search for YouTube and check if there’s an update available.

Enabling Power Saving Mode can reduce battery drain by limiting background processes and lowering performance slightly: Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Power Saving Mode. Customize it to suit your needs (e.g., limit CPU speed or reduce screen brightness).

After making these adjustments, monitor battery usage over the next few days to see if there's any improvement.

Thank you for providing great advice Day_Walker.

YouTube startedeusing grey sidebars a few days ago. Very annoying. Maybe something in that update is causing your issue. Try going into the settings for the app and uninstall updates to see if that helps.

If the issue persists, my recommendation would be to attempt an uninstall and reinstall of the app. Once you've gone through the above troubleshooting steps.

Agreed. Google isn't know to make the most energy efficient apps either.
