My fingerprint scanner has completely stopped working on my fold 5. After browsing online I've seen numerous other accounts of the exact same issue so it sounds like a design flaw. I've been busy over the holidays so have not got arround to contacting support but others with the same issue were quoted $600 for the fix. Seems ridiculous given the fact that it's clearly a design issue and the devices in question and just out of warranty by only a couple months at most. Anyone else having this same issue or have experience getting it fixed?

Also I have tried about every software fix I can find online so I'm 100% certain it's a hardware issue.

Hi Radioactive999,

It’s unfortunate to hear about your experience with the fingerprint scanner on your Galaxy Z Fold 5 and you're certain it's hardware-related, it's still worth double-checking the following troubleshooting steps to rule out any software issues before seeking repair. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Clean the Fingerprint Sensor:

  • Ensure the side button/fingerprint scanner is clean and free of dirt, grease, or debris.
  • Use a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to clean the sensor area.

Remove and re-register fingerprints: Go to Settings > Biometrics and Security > Fingerprints. Delete all existing fingerprints.

Re-register your fingerprint(s). Ensure your fingers are clean and dry during the setup. Try slightly changing the angle of your finger as you register it. Test the scanner after re-registration.

Adjust Screen Protector or Case. If you’re using a screen protector or case, ensure that it’s not interfering with the sensor. Remove any third-party screen protectors or cases and test the fingerprint scanner again.

Clear Cache Partition. Clearing the cache partition can fix system-level bugs:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears, then release.
  3. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Cache Partition, and select it with the power button.
  4. Reboot the device and check the scanner again.

Boot into Safe Mode: Safe Mode disables third-party apps and services:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Hold the Power Button until the Samsung logo appears.
  3. Release the button and press Volume Down until the phone boots up.
  4. Once in Safe Mode (you’ll see a "Safe Mode" label), test the fingerprint scanner.

If it works, a third-party app may be causing the issue. Uninstall recently installed apps.

Perform a Factory Reset. If none of the above steps work, you can perform a factory reset as a last software troubleshooting step. Please backup your data before performing it.

If nothing works, please get the device examined by the service technician by visiting any nearest Samsung authorized service center or any Samsung experience store.

Thank you.
