I have a flip z phone and have recently sent it off for the 3rd time to be looked at as the fold in the screen has cracked and the screen becomes unresponsive and the screen "leaks".

The first 2 times I sent it off it was repaired free of charge. I was advised by vodafone that the 3rd time of a single issue I am able to request a replacement phone and not just a repair.

I requested this time (being 3rd time for same issue) that I would like it replaced and not repaired as it is clearly a faulty device. I got a text on my spare phone that samsung has decided that my phone has physical and liquid damage and not manufacturing fault.

I am required to pay $882 ($110 deductred as gesture of "godwill") to have it repaired or they will return the device unrepaired.

Why is it that the 3rd time the same issue has happened and I am requesting a replacement is it now Physical / liquid damage?

This is totally unacceptable. It is a highly known fault of the flip z. I will not be taking this laying down. I will be fighting for a replacement and compensation. Samsung and vodafone have been absoloutely terrible to deal with.

We are now waiting for the case manager to assess our complaint.

Try and get the phone back. Indicate to them you are putting a complaint into the TIO (TIO ask you to negotiate first). Indicate you want the phone returned for an independent expert evaluation. In parallel review your State's consumer body processes and register a case for being "not fit for purpose". Unfortunately you will find lots of unhappy Samsung Members on these pages.

Under consumer law you have the right to choose a replacement or a full refund when the device has a major fault. I personally would have got a refund the first time it happened. Go to the ACCC or fair trading and they will sort it out for you.

Thank you for the replies. I was hoping to settle this without having to take those steps but samsung isn't really giving me much choice.

So I am in exactly the same position with my phone I have been without for a month now only to be told it will be sent back to me without being repaired but also acknowledging that this is a known issue with these phones……absolutely disgusted with the way this has been handled….I am now $2000 out of pocket with no phone and no solution just an expensive paper weight

That happened to me, my flip phone is just 6 months old 2 months ago I reported the screen peeling through the join. Last week the whole screen Bled from the join out with approximately 95% of the screen black. My phone never had the cover off from day of purchase, it is the samsung cover with the ring, so I always had my finger through it so it was never dropped. The report from Samsung said I damaged it and they want to charge me almost $600 to fix it. Anyone who knows me knows I'm borderline OCD every possession of mine is in mint as new condition.. this is a joke, its a fraud.. Why are they still selling these fold phones, Samsung have obviously not got the technology right. I will never by any form of fold phone and I'm very likely going to replace this with the new Google phone.

I am in exactly the same boat however Vodafone have flatly refused to repair  the damage but told me that they are well aware of this issue and should now take it up with Samsung……by far the worst decision I ever made was to change over from my Apple to Sumsung not only has this experience been financially costly the attitude and lack of assistance to fix the issue is ridiculous, I have been without my phone for nearly a month now, I have been told it will be sent back and not repaired even though the acknowledged that the this is a known issue with the phone…

Next time you get a phone...

Do I want a usable phone that does the job and is very trustworthy?

Or,

Do I want an expensive phone that has a cracking screen all the time?

However, I agree. This should be in the testing procedure of samsung phones.
