So for context, Emoji2 is part of the library called AppCompat, which ensures that apps would still be usable without regressions on older Android versions. Emoji2 is the part that's responsible in making sure that the newest emojis would display.

This is a very useful feature to have in Samsung apps. While Android 12 has updatable fonts eliminating the need for Emoji2, the problem is:

We have phones that would never be upgraded to Android 12 because Samsung has finished their upgrade obligations. For example, my Galaxy A10s that launched with Android 9 can only be upgraded to Android 11, and my Galaxy J4+ that launched with Android 8.0 can only be upgraded to Android 9.

Then there comes my Galaxy A03 which launched with Android 11 and will receive Android 12 this September, that's kind of long time to wait so we would need some kind of temporary solution for now.

These phones currently (A03)/will never be (A10s and J4+) able to display newer emojis without Emoji2. Samsung apps don't use it so we wouldn't be able to use newer emojis.

If Smasung apps supported Emoji2, there would be a big change:
•You can type the newest emojis on apps that support Emoji2 with Samsung Keyboard
•You can use and the newest emojis when texting on the Messages app
•You'll be able to use newer emojis to jot down your ideas on the Notes app
•Samsung Internet would be able to display newer emojis

Please implement this feature for us who are currently stuck on older Android versions.

First of all, the J4+ can be updated to Android 10. Second of all, some users are not getting new emojis.

It cannot. Also those users you mention will get new emojis if apps properly supported Emoji2.

Ah yes! Buy a new phone just to get new emojis which can be acquired if Samsung just enabled that goddamn freaking AppCompat library when they were developing their apps on Android Studio!

Waste of money. Not everyone of us can upgrade to new phones. Sorry but not everyone is as financially compatible as you.

The Galaxy A13 has Android 12 pre-installed.

And does it look like everybody has the money to buy that phone? I got my Galaxy A03 only for ₱6k and the A13 on the same store is about ₱10k.

Send your query or feedback to Samsung to make them aware

That's a good thing tbhScreenshot_20220709-180427_Samsung Members_26169_1657361067.jpg

Is it only available for Android 12? I hope Google makes it mandatory to at least Android 10 and above. My Galaxy A6 will be happy if that happens 😂

Yes unfortunately 😢 Google only made fonts updatable on Android 12, meaning you can get emoji updates straight from Google (and Samsung can also update their emojis this way) without software updates.

For Android 11 and below, developers would have to enable Emoji2 on their app for it to be able to show newer emojis that's not present on the current firmware. The problem is that there are many apps that do not enable it, for example Samsung's apps.
