I open an spreadsheet and enter 3 or 4 cells only. This is a simple spreadsheet (no macros). I had this in the secure folder and thought that was the problem, but now I have it in the main folder and it is still happening.

I uninstalled Excel and reinstalled it from Play Store. This did not fix the problem.

I just created a new spreadsheet on my tab s3 and closed and opened it an added data. NO PROBLEMS!

So that tells me the problem comes when using a spreadsheet created on another device - in my case it is a laptop.

Any ideas? Does this mean you can't take an existing spreadsheet from another device and maintain it on the tablet?

Any help appreciated!

Best thing you can do is contact microsft support.
Opening different versions of excel file should be the problem is excel is updated to latest version.

Alternate thing you can do is copy the spread sheet created in your tab to laptop and see what version is it. Than save as your excel file thats crashing your android excel to same version.

Try to save the spreadsheet in a different format, you have different options of saving .doc and .docx check when you save the spreadsheet made with the tablet on what format it is saved on, to save the spreadsheet from an other device on the same format that the tablet is able to work with. It maybe that your format saved is too old than the format the tablet is able to work with
