Life is incomplete without music. I will be discussing major music streaming apps available in the Philippines and what's their strengths and weaknesses.
Spotify
Advantages:
- Can stream up to 160 kbps (free), 320 kbps (premium), or evenly higher via hifi subscription soon
- Music keeps on playing even when minimized for all users
Disadvantages:
- Some song lyrics are quite messy
- Mobile free users can only play songs in shuffle mode
Apple Music
Advantages:
- Separate lyrics for clean and explicit versions
Disadvantages:
- No free tier
Disclaimer: I never experienced listening to that app yet due to lack of free tier.
YouTube Music
Advantages:
- Wider song selections, which includes music videos, covers and live performance that is integrated from YouTube
- On-demand listening (no shuffle play restrictions) even on free tier
- Great value especially when availing YouTube Premium + Music Premium bundle
Disadvantages:
- Free users can't play songs while minimized, just like YouTube
- Free users can only play music videos of the track
- Lyrics are not time-synced
Deezer
Advantages:
- HiFi listening
- Lyrics can also be shown on big screen (television set) via Chromecast
Disadvantages:
- Only explicit lyrics will be shown even when playing the clean version of the track
- Mobile free users can only play songs in shuffle mode
Each monthly premium subscription costs 129 php, and it also offers family bundle and student price as well.
